Corporate Relations definitely gave me the push I needed to get out of my comfort zone. It was at first quite daunting to undergo the learning process in understanding and executing the goals of the department. However, it turned out to be one of the most fulfilling experiences I’ve ever had on both a personal and org-wide level. Corporate Relations is a very hands-on department. Numerous meetings and calls enabled me to personally interact and engage with the sponsors and show-buyers for the production, ensuring that we build long-lasting relationships. Other opportunities also included spearheading org-wide initiatives such the blueREP privilege card and training members. Ultimately the department not only honed my skills in communication and leadership, but boosted my overall confidence to grab new and exciting opportunities.
Maintaining a relationship in the corporate setting has always been a daunting feat. Going into a college-grown theater company that thrived in the local theater scene made me want to see it from a different perspective-- Corporate Relations made me look into the Ateneo Blue Repertory not just an outlet of expression but also of functioning as a business in the industry. I came in for experience and exposure to musical theater, but definitely stayed for this department. Going through marketing packages and assuring the terms and conditions are mutually-beneficial relegates blueREP as desirable — as it should. Opportunities in CorRel range from contacting sponsors and crafting Memorandum of Agreements to securing products and/or sponsorships. The highly pervasive and robust work opportunities in the department definitely speaks volume on what it means to *be anything, be blueREP.*
As a newbie with no experience whatsoever in blueREP, Corporate Relations really made my first year something to remember. Getting assigned to CorRel is an experience I would not trade for anything else. I met such amazing and passionate people who are also mostly first-timers, so it made the experience less frightening because it comforted me to know that I was learning alongside my members and my CorRel head as well. I’m really happy how the CorRel department is hands-on and at the same time willing to let us do things by ourselves. It was a good touch to my learning experience as a newbie. I got to contact different sponsors, partners, and solicitors, and I also learned how to negotiate with them. This experience inspired me to widen my knowledge about CorRel, and now, I am braver and more inspired to take on positions that will allow me to learn more and grow. Hopefully, others would be inspired to do so as well, in their own way and at their own pace.
